My name is Karen Alsup. I'm an Illustrator and Surface Designer living in upstate NY. All of my work is hand-painted, and my mediums of choice are watercolor and acrylic. Early influences of my work come from playing outside until the lights came on while growing up -  whether it was exploring woods and fields, climbing trees, taking care of gardens, or walking by the shore. The feelings, smells and beauty of the earth were all around me. 

 

Always with a pencil or brush in my hand, I took as many art courses as I could. Even though I thought of myself as a fine artist, getting a degree in graphic design allowed me to express my penchant for organization, and learn life-long computer and software skills. I am very excited to be able to merge my love of nature, fine art and graphic design within the surface design industry.

 

I strive to create calming, joyful and sweet patterns and paintings expressing the organic and natural world that I admire, and share it with others.
